Get Back IN CHARACTER With Our DEATHSTROKE Desktop
Apologies to everybody waiting for the Titans: Villains For Hire Special to appear on yesterday's comicsblog. Obligations beyond the comics realm demanded our attention, as so often happens in the lives of heroes and dabblers alike, but we promise to pull double-duty and give y'all what we've got on tap today. Since a day can sometimes be a very, very long time-- especially if you've already been up for three (at least, that's what we hear) -- we thought we'd slide some Slade your way. IMAGINE ALL DAY: Damsel In Distress?

We're in the final twelve or so hours of imagine all day. Admittedly, the days' events kept the Springfield Home Office away from the comicsblog. Not the ideal situation, we agree; but hey, it's not like we asked 'Heavy' Matildita, our cleaning lady, to go into labor, either. (We thought she'd gained weight, but we never figured she was preggo, you know?) As you might expect, our morning went to hell in a hand basket rather quickly, although it did come in handy as a makeshift cradle shortly thereafter. Long story shot: To those of you who phoned in, concerned, we appreciate your calls, and we're happy to report that not only are we fine , but mother and new baby daughter, Luornu** Marisa Santa Maria, are both doing well, too.
** Unusual name? Not at all. Heav-- er, Matilda named her brand new feeder after Luornu Durgo, Duo Damsel of The Legion of Super Heroes. The Legion and its members are the featured heroes of imagine all day, of course, and you'll be learning why soon -- if you don't already know. You're a savvy bunch, that's for sure. And because you are, check out George Perez' Legion from 1982. It's gigantic wallpaper-sized and it's just for you. Right click, fall in love, and do you thing.

SuperComputer X-Tra: SPRINGFIELD PUNX by Dean Fraser
Yesterday, we brought dauntless dabblers of every demographic some sweet Alan Moore flavored desktop adornment - and to rave reviews. Thanks much to everyone who left us Back Issues telling us just how much they loved what Mustard cooked up! We're back at it again today, but this time bringing y'all some art that's a little closer to the Home Office - well, sorta.
Springfield PUNX is illustrator Dean Fraser fabulously funny ongoing web project. A fellow Blogspot blogger, Fraser skillfully takes characters from pop culture and 'Simpsons-izes' them. It's a great take on comic book fan-art that he applies to a whole cast of characters, from Fight Club's Tyler Durden to Christopher Nolan's Batman crew.

He pulled together greater comic-dom's superhero community for the group above, which we've got for you here in Supercomputing desktop wallpaper size. Mad fun stuff, especially as guys like a classic James Bond, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even the folks from Heroes have found their way into Fraser's artistic aggregate.
The trip to Fraser's Springfield blog was one of the best webcations we've had in the past, oh, 36 hours -- and we're sure you'd enjoy a quick stop to sight-see, too. SuperComputer: ALAN MOORE's Genre Of Life from Mustard Magazine
We like that - Genre of Life. We'll put our comicsblog "TM" on that, but we can't claim the same for this awesome desktop wallpaper that shows comics scribe extraordinaire Alan Moore standing before a gallery of panels from his many comic books. The image, later converted to wallpaper size, was made by the funny folks at the U.K.'s Mustard magazine, who created the poster-size variant from the wraparound cover art used for the front and back cover of their fourth issue. Mustard #4 features an exclusive interview with Moore, some of which can be read online [here].

The design was inspired by Kevin O'Neill's cover for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume One,
and the main illustration of Moore, also by O'Neill, is from the author's bio at the back of the graphic novel. But the art in the frames behind Moore is by the various talented artists who collaborated with Moore on his comics. We've identified each of the artists and their comics below - info that you'll definitely appreciate after downloading today's Super Computing desktop. Enjoy!

Figures In Action: In-Depth! The Legend of LEGENDS
We've made no secret of how much we like Mattel's DC Universe Classics, DC Comics' licensed action figure line and answer to their cross-town competition's Marvel Legends. But we've been rather mum about Legends itself, and that's our bad in more ways than one. DC Universe Classics owes many of its concepts - and perhaps much of its quality to Legends. After all, when it comes to collecting action figures in 2010, Marvel Legends is, well, legendary. As you can tell from our crowded little pic above (especially after your right-clicking mouse transforms it into a crowded super-huge desktop wallpaper), Marvel's Legends has been hanging around the toy aisle for quite some time -- 2002, to be exact. Toy Biz, the small toy manufacturer that merged with Marvel in the 90's following the publisher's declaration of bankruptcy, gained exclusive rights from the partnership to turn Marvel's entire comics Universe into toys, and did so in a manner that has since become the industry standard. The Legends line of six-inch action figures came packaged in large clamshell-type packaging (that also included a comic book featuring that character plus a base stand) making the figure easy to display in or out of the package. These considerations were very popular to collectors, and Toy Biz's later innovations - short-packed and therefore more rare figures (or chase variants) with each new Series and their subsequent incorporation of the Build-A-Figure concept - became wildly so.

Legends collectors may not have been as surprised as the rest of us were by Marvel's acquisition by Disney last August -- after all, when the price of oil (and therefore plastics) began to rise, Marvel sold off their master toy license in 2007 to Hasbro for $205 million and took themselves out of the game -- and the risk. Hasbro continued the line, but without Toy Biz' attention to detail while reducing selection and increasing price. While improvements have been made (such as the addition of the 12-inch Marvel Legends / Marvel Icons ) Hasbro's focus has been on developing their 3 3/4" Marvel Universe figures as well as figures based on Marvel's movie machine, satisfying their target market of young families' demands for more wallet-friendly Marvel superhero toys while keeping their own petrol prices at a minimum.
We all know that oil is the cause of too many wars involving action figures of a more human nature, and it's evident that oil also brought the Marvel Legends
into the Collectors War. Unlike Hasbro's Marvel Universe, Legends made a comparatively very poor showing at last month's Toy Fair in New York City, and as recently as this morning, one despondent collector asked Is Marvel Legends dead? in a posting on Marvel's website message boards.

The answer is likely Not Dead Yet -- but the writing is on the wall and it looks like Galactus himself may have been the tagger. Whatever the future holds for Legends, the line's ongoing collectibility won't be a part of it. Still, Legends past contributions can't be ignored. Toy News International and several other industry websites named Legends the most influential toy line of the past decade, and the more collectible toys of today - DC Universe Classics,

TRON: LEGACY Trailer Lights Up The Web...and Today's 'Coming Attractions'
We capped off our 2009 blog with the final teaser poster for Disney's most-anticipated film of the past several years: Tron: Legacy. Today, Disney released their first official trailer for Legacy, the sequel to their original Tron from 1982. Fresh off his Oscar win Sunday night, Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Kevin Flynn for Legacy, as does Bruce Boxleitner for the role of Alan Bradley. In the original film's 'electronic world,' Boxleitner's Bradley was also Tron - but whether this aspect of the character continues into Legacy hasn't been revealed to us inquiring dabblers...yet. Considering a name like 'Legacy,' we're thinking the 'Tron torch' gets passed for this film, probably from the get-go. Newcomer Garrett Hedlund (in the role of Bridges' son, Sam) appears to be the focus - and we bet, the next of the film's namesakes.
Here's what Disney has to say about its new sci-fi commentary on simulated reality:
