Our JUNE 2010 Monthly Contest: Abbracadabbling's Off-The-Cuff MEME CHALLENGE!

 [via]

Fucking brilliant piece, absolutely. But we want in on the meme thing. So --- four words, turn it into a comic strip. This is the only dialogue, and let's say, eight (8) panels minimum...to sixteen (16) maximum. Keep it to a single page, black and white only.  One other rule: be sure to tell a story. Then do a quick scan and send it into the comicsblog.  We'll tell you where soon. We'll also post all entries, best one wins a nifty cool prize. C'mon, dabblers - you got all month. Put those noggins to work and get creative on our ass.

FlashCAPTION: Race Ends @ Midnight Thursday

We know we don't have to remind any of you that our first incredibly exciting Monthly Conest -- FlashCAPTION -- ends this Thursday, November 5th.@ 11:59:59pm PST.
Raley, the Springfield Office Gang, and I've all had a blast our first time out the gate. So first off, thanks for playing, everybody. This game's a two-way street, and we couldn't have had the sweet time we did if you weren't along on the fun run with us. We put you on the fast track , but from where we're sitting, not one dabbler out there finished the race looking anything but good. A little sweaty maybe, but none the worse for wear. Those NewsFLASH clues weren't walks in the park, either. Well, maybe Central Park, near that one men's restroom off....ah, never mind. Heh. Suffice it to say, solving The Flash's Mystery City wasn't easy -- especially since clues disappeared off the blog faster than Professor Zoom on crystal meth.
But with less than two days to go before the clock strikes twelve, the time has arrived to get your contest entries in to our little elector-magic mailbox. Be sure to include your most creative, completely comics-appropriate caption as well as your answer that reveals the secret identity of Wally West's Mystery City and email all that goodness to presentmagiccomics@gmail.com.
Don't forget to include your contact info, dabblers. And be sure to write "Ok for Blog" somewhere in your email, because we wouldn't want to put your mug on cyberspace if you didn't want it there.
Then get your speedy selves back to your favorite comicsblog in just two (2) days. We'll be announcing our FlashCAPTION WINNER -- and you never know, that winner might be you!!
It's an event worth of re-posts and the MTV Splash Page, and it'll all happen right here -- on abbracadabbling: the present magic comicsblog -- beginning at 3:00pm PST on Saturday, November 7th. Tell your friends -- and don't be late! And by the way, thanks for playing, Dabblers.

Did You Catch Our Halloween Re-Posts? FlashCAPTION Ends Friday

The NewsFLASH reposts went live on the comicsblog Halloween night - and even made it through most of the morning hours. Total posting time on abbracadabbling was approximately twelve hours.
The current hour is now (factoring in Daylight Savings, of course) 11:15am PST, and the re-posted clues are down for good.
Here's a brief summary of how to enter FlashCAPTION:
Compose a witty caption, read it aloud and share it with all the BFF's. Then write it in the large empty caption box beside Wally West's astonished face. Along with the most correct answer from the clues you've solved (which you've already jotted down in the upper left-hand corner caption box), download the Flash file and print a hard copy for yourself.
Then, mail your completed Flash JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, or BIT to presentmagiccomics@gmail.com -- and be sure to write FlashCAPTION in the subject line so we know you're not spam! Please feel free to send us a small photo of yourself, too. If you write "Ok to post on blog," we'll put your face next to your winning entry on our Saturday blog!!
Full contest details can be found here.
PS. For those of you who have been wondering as to the actual values of NewsFLASH Clues that have values exceeded and seemingly made irrelevant by a later post with a higher value, here's our rationale: The more valuable the NewsFLASH, the more difficult the Clue. Should no one be able to answer the correct clue, contestants who have answered the next most valuable clue will then be in consideration for the big prize. The numbers help sort all that out in the final analysis.
As posted below, all contest submissions must be received by 11:59 PM PST on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 . Preliminary winners will be selected from of all eligible contestants' emails containing the proper answer to Wally's 'Mystery City'. Entries will then be judged on their original caption, and criteria for selecting a one overall winner will be based on creativity, wit, and comic book 'appropriateness' of all captions submitted. Final Winner will be notified by email, and winner's entry will be posted along with their name (and photo, if submitted) on abbracadabbling by 3pm PST Saturday, November 7th, 2o09.

HALLOWEEN 09: Falling Back, Looking Ahead

Well, dabblers, we've been on the road to this Long Halloween (hint : remember to turn your clocks back one hour tonight at 2am) for a month now, and we hope you've enjoyed it as much as Raley, the Abbracadabbling Archivists, my Springfield home office support staff, and I all have. We had plenty of lofty ambitions to make our first Halloween here on the blog as magical as possible, and I think we did pretty well.
I know I speak for everyone here when I say we'd truly love -- and need -- to hear what our readers and visitors have to say about our efforts. Your feedback is invaluable, and the thoughts you share with us today will help us improve our daily blogs and the content we feature tomorrow. Let us know what you've got to say, as well as what you'd like to read, see, and experience when you visit abbracadabbling.
And dabblers, you know exactly how to reach us: just scroll down the blog to our Back Issues department and the rest is as easy as pumpkin pie.
October comes to an end tonight, but vestiges of this amazing Halloween Holiday will remain on the comicsblog for a good while to come. Along with those holdover treats, many of the amazing columns like Comic Meme, Industrial Vigilante, Vintage Comics Stuff, and Comics University that we gave you a taste of in October will be up to full speed next month, and they're all shaping up to be fantastic and informative reads.
Our special feature Building the Blackest Night is on track to finally make it's appearance in November, and the winner of our FlashCAPTION Contest will be also be revealed early in the month. We'll have found Wally West, but that doesn't mean our fun has to stop: November's contest kicks off November 11th with Thanksgiving-themed challenge that will put your taste buds and your intelligence to the test! And you'll have plenty of incentive to do just that, what with a Near Mint copy of Image Comics' CHEW #1 going to next month's winner!
Before we sign off for the night, we'd like to remind everyone to keep an eye out for our FlashCAPTION Contest repostings. We've been promising they'd find their way to the blog on Halloween Night...and if the clock we're looking at can be trusted, the night is still young.
Happy Halloween 2009, abbracadabblers! For Raley and the Gang, this is the Dabbler, signing off until next month. See ya!

FLASH CAPTION BEGINS NOW! Win FLASH:Rebirth #5 by Geoff Johns!!

The wait is over, dabblers!
abbracadabbling's
FIRST
Monthly Readers Contest
FLASH CAPTION
STARTS NOW!
Can You Help The Flash Fill-In-The Blank?
Wally West a.k.a. The Flash isn't looking too hot. He's just been put through the wringer and now something's come up leaving The Fastest Man Alive at a loss for words. Even worse, Wally's doesn't even know where he is!!
FLASH CAPTION Contest Rules
It's your duty to help The Flash out! We've given you The Flash's first words: Holy @#!%. Now you've got to complete The Flash's train of thought by filling in the Caption Box with what Wally thinks or says next. Be creative, be funny, be serious, and be kind. [HINT: Limit your responses to no more than three (3) sentences.]
But The Flash isn't out of trouble yet! He's still lost in a MYSTERY CITY and he needs you to tell him where he's really run off to.
Beginning Wednesday October 7th, CLUES to The Flash's possible whereabouts will begin to pop-up on abbracadabbling. Each CLUE will be a question about geography in the DC COMICS Universe. Only correct answers will eventually help you tell Flash where he's at, so study up!
NEW CLUES will appear on abbracadabbling tomorrow thru Sunday, October 25th, 2009. Each and every time you see a post with the NEWSFLASH (newspaper/Flash logo) icon, you'll know there's a New Clue to be found.
Every CLUE will also have a CLUE NUMBER. Once you've collected and answered every CLUE correctly, the CLUE with the highest CLUE NUMBER of the group is The Flash's location.
Keep Alert! CLUES may or may not be posted each day, so the only way to know if a new CLUE to The Flash's location has been revealed is by checking back with abbracadabbling daily and looking for the NEWSFLASH.
Most Importantly, CLUES will ONLY REMAIN on abbracadabbling for a total of FOUR (4) DAYS from the time and date of their posting. Once time is up, they're gone! The CLUE you miss may be the answer to MYSTERY CITY's secret identity.
FLASH CAPTION Grand Prize
For helping Wally West a.k.a. The Flash out of a tight situation, one lucky abbracadabbler will receive mailed to their preferred address one (1) new copy of FLASH: Rebirth Issue #5 (non-variant edition) -- bagged and boarded, of course.
FLASH: Rebirth is a seven-part comic book series written by Geoff Johns with art by Ethan Van Sciver and is published monthly by DC Comics. Issue #5 will be available October 28th, 2009. For more Flash: Rebirth, please go here.
Winning FLASH CAPTION
The only thing any abbracadabbler needs to win October's FLASH CAPTION Contest is a great imagination, an email account, and the good habit to check the abbracadabbling blog daily between Oct. 7th and Oct. 25th for clues they won't want to miss out on! Only emailed submissions received by 11:59pm PST November 5th, 2009 will be considered eligible to win FLASH CAPTION. [Please read below on how to submit your Contest Entry.]
